Hot fishing on the Uncompahgre
Fishing at Pa-Co-Chu-Puk on the Uncompahgre was really good last weekend. I guided two anglers at the park on Saturday and we had all kinds of action -- rainbows eating small nymphs all day long, fish rising to midges in the afternoon, big spawning browns chasing the smaller rainbows -- it was an action-packed day. Micro nymphs were the most consistent. We primarily used the Mayhem, Winker Midge, Zebra Midge and Cheeseman Emergers. Egg patterns were deadly, too. San Miguel suddenly icy
Our long fall season on the San Miguel appears to be coming to an end. This week, overnight temperatures dropped below zero. I have noticed anchor ice forming in places along the river, a sure sign that fishing is more or less finished until late February on the San Miguel. Time to fish the Uncompahgre and Gunnison.
